Wesley Mission makes volunteering fun

Wesley Fair packs a punch this year

It was sweltering outside, but within the walls of Wesley Mission’s head office on Thursday the 2nd of October, things were cool, fresh, sparkling and bright.

Wesley Fair got off to a great start; the anxious bargain hunters who were queued outside flocked and fossicked through the stalls once doors opened, setting the pace for what would be a busy, successful fundraising day.

The vibrant atmosphere made an immediate impact – an array of stalls, colourful bunting, the smell of scones and pizzas baking, and a stream of wandering musicians and singers. And it was very, very difficult to miss the Lindt Chocolate Fountain, conveniently located a few metres inside the foyer entrance. This marvellous, melted masterpiece was an all-round crowd pleaser.

The usual fair attractions were hits again this year – the designer clothing stalls, the School for Seniors performances, the amazing Asian and Rotuman cuisine, and the craft and bric-a-brac stalls. There were also some added highlights – the Liz Davenport fashion parade, home-made lunch goodies, Wesley Vocational Institute’s delicious pizzas, and Vision Valley’s activities for kids.

More than 140 people helped to make the day happen - a combination of head office and centre staff, corporate associates, volunteers, congregation members, and the general public.

But by far, the stand-out feature of Wesley Fair was the spirit of festivity and togetherness that infused the day. It was a rare gathering of Wesley Mission supporters, friends and associates. Many Wesley Mission centres came together, bringing with them their vast experiences and reminding us once again how broad and diverse an organisation Wesley Mission is.

This one dynamite day has raised more money for Wesley Mission than the longer running fairs of previous years. Well done to all those who helped achieve this fantastic result!
